CAPE COD CHAPTER (005)

               JUNE 7, 2008

Since the 2007 Region I Convention, the Cape Cod Chapter Commander continues to participate in a number of civic activities which included, but are by no means limited to:

Battle of Bunker Hill Day Parade

Bunker Hill Monument Oration by VADM Fitzgerald USN

Fourth of July ceremonies at USS CONSTITUTION

Veterans Day ceremonies at the State House

Dedication of Veterans Memorial at Northeastern University

Presentation of the Blue Star Flag at the State House Hall of Flags

City of Boston Memorial Day Parade as Commander of Troops.

          Memorial Day Ecumenical Mass

The Cape Cod Chapter continues to provide an engraved pewter mug to two members of the graduating class of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at their Commencement.  This year the awards go to

Deck:  Stephanie A. Condino,                      Engineering:  Kevin P. James,

_______________

At Falmouth Highs School , the Chapter continues to participate in the selection of the winner of the Lt James M. Pafford Essay Contest.  Lt Pafford, a long time resident of Falmouth and a very active member of the Cape Cod Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars, established a trust fund in the memory of his son, killed on active duty during World War II with the U.S. Air Force.  Lt Pafford purposefully chose an essay definition with a strong patriotic flavor:          WHY I LOVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The essays this year were extremely well written and choosing the winner will be a challenge.

Attempts to bolster membership and/or to have existing members take a more pro-active role in the Chapter are continuing.  A special meeting is planned for later this summer.

Yours in Comradeship,

Robert L. Gillen
